Assessment

Student learning could be assessed using:

  • Peer assessment - presentation to class, class wiki page, progressive story.
  • Parent reviews- eg, xtranormal videos can be sent to parents to view,
  • Rubrics could also be use to evaluate learning, the process the students go through in using these tools what problem solving strategies were used, did the student draft, review and self correct?
  • How effective was the choice of technology used?
  • Both google docs and wiki spaces allow the teacher to log on and see the progress of work.

This method's of evaluation is best suited to these technologies because:

  • Using technology is not always about spelling a word correctly, but about process and decision making, this makes google docs and wiki spaces an excellent assessment tool.
  • You can change the focus of your assessment to suit the technologies within each of the different types of evaluation,
  • Students would enjoy assessing themselves and their peers, and in doing so, they would continue to learn
  • Parents would love being involved and tracking their children's progress
  • Set parameters/restrictions/guidelines for what you would like students to include and assess accordingly,

The major differences between these evaluation methods and more traditional ones are:

  • Interactive
  • New and Interesting
  • Involves parents and students, not just teacher
  • Ability to set more realistic goals within the classroom to enable students to learn and succeed at a greater rate
  • Rewarding the strategy and process not just outcomes.
